Want to deliver jaw-dropping metallic effects in your prints without dealing with foil, cutting, or extra steps? FOREVER DTF Metallic gives you a smooth, premium metallic finish using your existing DTF printer — no extra hardware or vinyl layering required. In this tutorial, we’ll walk through exactly how to set up your files, print, and press this specialty film for top-tier results.
What is FOREVER DTF Metallic?
FOREVER DTF Metallic is a specialty transfer film that adds a metal-like shimmer to your design — ideal for fashion branding, streetwear, luxury merchandise, or standout seasonal prints. It works with standard DTF ink and powder, but has a unique requirement: no white ink.
Step 1: Setting Up Your Design
- Design in 4-Color Black: Use CMYK Black (100C / 100M / 100Y / 100K) — this ensures deep, rich tones that transfer cleanly and allow the metallic base to shine through.
- White Ink: Turn white ink OFF in your RIP software. White underbase would block the metallic effect.
- Fonts & Details:
- Minimum font size: 17 pt
- Minimum open areas in the design: 6 mm
- Avoid ultra-fine details that might get lost during transfer.
Step 2: Printing on the Metallic Film
- Print Side: Print on the coated/rough side of the film.
- Use Gloves: Wear latex gloves to avoid any oils or fingerprints that might affect the metallic sheen.
- Printer Settings: Use your usual RIP settings, just ensure white is disabled.
- Powdering & Curing:
- Apply standard hot-melt DTF powder.
- Cure using your usual method — just mind the maximum temps:
- Oven: Max 135°C (275°F)
- Shaker w/ IR Heating: Max 100°C (212°F)
Step 3: Heat Press Application
FOREVER DTF Metallic is a cold peel film — let the garment cool completely before peeling the carrier.
Fabric | Press Temp | Time | Pressure | Fixing Press |
---|---|---|---|---|
Cotton | 120°C / 248°F | 30 sec | Max Pressure | 15 sec (fix) |
Polyester | 120°C / 248°F | 30 sec | Max Pressure | 15 sec (fix) |
Wash & Care Instructions
- Wash cold (up to 40°C / 104°F), inside out.
- Avoid fabric softeners and liquid detergents.
- No tumble drying — air dry only.
- Iron inside out or with baking paper over the print.
Tips for Maximizing the Metallic Effect
- Use large bold areas of 4C black to show off the shine — metallic effects look best in high-density blocks, not fine lines.
- Avoid gradients or photo elements. Keep the artwork graphic.
- Sell the Shine: Let customers know this effect is built into the film — no extra foil needed!
For Dealers & Resellers
- Metallic films are often misunderstood or feared — this one isn’t. Emphasize that:
- It uses standard powder and ink.
- It works on both light and dark garments.
- It’s easy to upsell due to the luxury finish and “instant wow” factor.
- Offer printed samples to show the sheen — it’s the easiest way to win over skeptics.
